About Karen Harris
Throughout my life, I've embraced diverse roles and experiences. From being a dedicated mother and PTA president to various sales positions, including a successful career as a Realtor with Ebby Halliday, each chapter has contributed to my artistic journey.
Color has always been a defining element in my life, a passion that's evident in my paintings. My mother recalls leaving me in the candy aisle of the grocery store as a child. While the reason remains a mystery - whether it was the candy or the vibrant colors and shapes that captivated me - this early fascination with color has remained a constant throughout my life.
I've explored various artistic mediums throughout my career, including watercolor and acrylics, but my true passion lies in oil painting. I'm drawn to its vibrant colors, distinctive aroma, and the way it glides smoothly onto the canvas. The ability to build rich layers of paint allows me to create depth and texture in my work. Following in the footsteps of the Masters, I find oil painting to be the perfect medium for my artistic expression.
Georgia O'Keeffe has been a significant inspiration in my artistic journey. I admire her masterful use of color and her ability to capture the beauty of the natural world on canvas. I'm honored when viewers draw comparisons between my work and that of Monet, a compliment that never fails to humble me.
My professional art career began in the spring of 2016 with my first exhibition. The excitement was overwhelming, and I was thrilled to sell three reproductions at that debut show. Since then, I've been privileged to participate in numerous exhibitions, and I'm deeply gratified that my artwork now graces homes not only throughout Texas but across the United States.
In 2016, I was part of the Midtown artists complex in Dallas. I'm an active member of the Texas Visual Arts Association (TVAA) and have exhibited in their gallery and shows. Additionally, I'm a proud member of the Richardson Civic Arts Society (RCAS). My award-winning piece "The Deep" was selected for their 51st Annual Regional Art Show at the Eisemann Center for Performing Arts, marking a significant milestone in my artistic career.
